History at its best

A phenominal story that takes the reader back to the early days of British colonial settelment. Written in the period covered by a meticulous and astute observer who quotes sources with footnotes throughout. As the reader I was confronted by the ghastly details of how "New Holland" was settled by Europeans. It covers in great detail the harshness, difficulties and situations faced by the immigrants as well as the Aboriginals.
Written in the form of early English as it was written in the 1800's, it takes a bit of getting used to for the reader not aquainted with the form of writing. However, the story it tells is up close and extremely enlightening. The details given leave the reader in no doubt about life was like in this period.
I highly recommend this book to the reader who desires to know what life was like back in the early 1800's when Australia was first being settled by Europeans.
