Great reference, needs better editing

This book is comprehensive and has a lot information on A LOT of herbs. My biggest qualm with it is the editing. I keep finding typo after typo. Okay, maybe I've found like eight, but I have only read about 30 plant profiles in the whole book and they seem to pop up more and more. This matters when you are writing up information about plants and include Latin names, constituents and herbal actions. Spelling matters. I like the book and find the spelling errors forgivable. It's good that I have a few other books to cross reference the spelling. Or I can use the internet.
Some of my other herb books, that are written by more well-known herbalists give completely opposite information, mostly in areas regarding the moisture of the plant or its temperature. Hard to say who's right and plants can have opposite effects on two different people.
If you can only buy a few books on herbal medicine, I wouldn't choose this one. Although, I personally like it and use it. I would have given this book 3.5 stars but I rounded up because I have a few herbs books that I bought and never use. At least this one comes off the shelf.

Admittedly, I am not educated in this type of ...

Admittedly, I am not educated in this type of science, and while this appears to be a very thorough guide, there are no photos or illustrations of the herbs described. Of course, I can use the internet for this end, but had I known the book completely lacked photos and/or illustrations, I would not have purchased this volume. That said, I'm sure its value and use will prove itself with time.

A wonderful terrible book

WAYS OF DYING is one of the most fascinating novels that I have read in years. The book is set in South Africa during a period that seems to span the end of the apartheid regime and focuses exclusively on the lives (and deaths) of poor South African Blacks in rural villages and urban shanty towns near what I suspect is Durban. Fans of Marquez will feel very much at home here in a world of "magical realism", yet while Mda may have been influenced by novels like 100 YEARS OF SOLITUDE he has a voice that is uniquely his own, and one that I sense is profoundly rooted in Africa. Mda's "hero" is a self-declared Professional Mourner, who ekes out an existence at the edge of society. Some aspects of his life are almost grotesque in form, and the deaths that surround him are often truly horrifying, yet somehow I found this a profoundly optimistic and human book. In spite of the worst that the world can throw at him the Professional Mourner is able to transcend mere existence & by the end I was shamelessly rooting for him. I should add that I used this book in a course on the Turn of the Century, and one of my toughest-case students, whom I had failed to excite with anything else, came into my office today saying "I just LOVE Mda" You will too,

At last a new African writer! And he's good! Yay!

I am an avid reader of African literature, both fiction and non-fiction (especially memoirs). I am always searching for contemporary non-white writers (the white writers are good, but it is not unreasonable to want other perspectives), so I was happy to learn about Zakes Mda from a recent New York Times book review column, and I ordered his two books immediately.
'Ways of Dying' is not about post-apartheid South Africa, though the blurb suggests that. I estimate it to be set in the late 1980s, shortly before the end of the old regime was drawing near.
It's a short book, but it's well written, and paints a vivid picture of life in South Africa. And yes, the 'black perspective' is different, and very interesting, and most welcome.

Recently i had the pleasure of reading material from one of South Africa's most celebrated black authors, Zakes Mda. An Oxford University Press published book titled "Ways of Dying", this is a South African fiction selection. Being a fiction, it is wtitten in a very creative manner that i could hardly associate with any of the books i had read before.

This is a story of love written with expectation of one's imagination to take over. The wording, grouping, style and context of this book make it so. It is mainly based on two characters and the way they live their lives. Toloki is a man consumed with the profession of mourning the dead whilst his love Noria has lost immensely through life, still has the ability to show Toloki how to live.

There are various different characters in this novel, which make it as interesting. Even with their differences, they jell well together making the story line easily readable and understandably creative enough to follow. The vast lines go from Toloki who grew up as the ugliest boy in the village and people taking no note of him to the same character turning into a man who is widely respected for his chosen profession in the city outskirts where it was the only place he found recognition. In the village where he grew up Toloki had a friend who had the identity he wanted. Her name was Noria. Toloki hated and loved her with the same heart. Noria was everyone's favorite in the villafe; she had her mother's beauty and brought all the boys and towns' man attention and had the most amazing laugh that made all the village people happy whenever they heard it. When she was sad, everyone was too.

The writing style used in this book is that which is very easy to follow. There are no bombastic (big) words used nor are there times where you could lose the story. Every word flows into a paragraph that combines to others that make this a brilliantly written story.

One of the other things that make this an interesting read is the humor infused.

This is a brilliant written book that everyone with a sense of adventure and imagination will enjoy.

I was curious about this book. I noticed how many 5 star reviews it got, started looking at the reviewers and noticed a trend. Although the reviewers almost never seem to have reviewed more than 15 books, they all seemed to have reviewed the same titles. Look for yourself. Click on the reviewers' other reviews. You will see the same books reviewed: Slow Home, Meeting You, Anything my John Locke, How to get..., Miles Away, Beyond the Beaker, Escaping life's Sting, The Darkness, and anything by some author named Palmieri. Are these reviews all the work of some agency for hire that will promote your book on amazon for a fee? I was wondering if the author would explain this.

Amazing amazing book. I would really recommend it. It has been a godsend and a bible for what can only be described as an awful situation which can put the 'other woman' in complete despair. I think that the 'other woman' has a stigma attached to her in society but what people don't realise is that she is just a normal woman who has the same dreams and desires as any other woman out there but has fallen in love with the wrong man and is often emotionally trapped there onwards. This book is great because it doesn't put down the 'other woman' and the author explains in a clear (and entertaining) manner why these men do what they do and how in the end its more often than not a losing game for the 'other woman' Great for realising your own self worth too! Couldn't recommend it more. It's a horrible situation to be in and I like her realism and hopefully it will make people realise that it's not just the wife who is the victim- the other woman really suffers and she is not in the least bit the evil seductress she is often painted to be!

Therapy for the Other Woman - how to get out

Sally Webb's book "Forget Mr. Married" is an amazing book and a whole lot cheaper than therapy. She lays out in simple steps how to break free of this toxic type of relationship and also explains why it needs to be done. She uses lists, stories and personal experiences to try and do this. She herself was once involved with a married man and she throws in her own experiences, which I feel makes the book more powerful. She talks gently and offers positive thoughts along the way. She never puts down the situation, she knows how hard it is to break free. Instead, she gently guides and persuades and tries to make it less serious. She breaks everything down into steps and categories and summarizes at the end. I think her ideas will help those women who seem to be blind to the harmful nature of their relationships with married men.

About the Author

Finally i finished Where the Ivy Hides last night and this is book 3 of Roman series...I waited so long for it and when i got it i sure hell devoured it until the end...It is well written,well developed,well characters even bringing the personage on Roman/Roman2....this is Ivy's story in this one where we know what happen....This read was a hell of a ride just as the first ones i was not disappointed and was sure i was gonna love it and guess what?:i was right,i loved it...It was lighter than the first 2 but still has the:,captivating,intense,taking a breather every time i was turning page, adapt to the new life,did not see the that coming,the sorrow,the wanting to sometimes scream at her and say:NO,stop!!!!!,i felt sad for her to go trough all of what happen to her,Ry(Ryker) who was always there,never give up love the way he is,and here comes where i can tell more and more about this tale but i will suggest you to read it specially if you read 1/2 books...I enjoyed /loved it and to me author Kimber S.Daw did it again and hope sure will bring more of her work cause i was hooked with this series and cant wait for more to come.......Well Done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Every-time I dive into one of Kimber’s books I know I’m in for one hell of a ride, and once again I’m not disappointed one I O-da!
The storyline of Ivy and Ryker was not a smooth journey. Ivy is stubborn and a very determined woman. Ryker is the kind of man who is always there when you need to put your life back in order. It’s a wild ride of “Did I read that right” We are given another Push-Pull, Raw, Intense, Captivating, Gripping read. One I will not give anything close to a spoiler on, due to this is a “must read yourself” page after page and experience the journey. Kimber has a gift of grabbing you from the first page and she keep you in her clutches until the final page and even them she leaves me wanting more of whatever she is writing. Grab a copy for yourself, find your favorite place to read and “Live the Experience of Kimber’s writings.”

Waited so long for this book that I had to go back and read the first two, to refresh my memory. Ivy was kidnapped as a baby. If she'd ask about her parents, she was put into a wooden box. Growing up , Ivy learned to numb herself with drugs. Ryker has loved her from the day he laid eyes on her. I love this character, he's a mountain that Ivy will have to climb to work through all her problems. What a great ending for the Romans Trilogy!!!!!

A Quick and Charmingly Funny Read!

A review copy was provided for an honest review. I will make this short and brief. This was a cute little book that has a bunch of laughs to go with it. It delivers humorous points about why we're all human and I think it's enjoyably entertaining. The fact that it's supposedly told by the charmingly funny Gecko from Geico only makes it even more intriguing. You're Only Human is written with intellect and wit that makes it appealing to anyone looking for a quick, fun read. I wish that it had more text as it's comprised of lots of doodles and illustrations which make up at least 80% of the book itself. Overall it will take you less than an hour to finish and it'll give you a good laugh. It's the perfect book companion for car travel or if you just have some time to kill and are in need of some quirky amusement; this will provide you with that!
